Health experts urge vulnerable groups to continue staying at home

Kung maaari, we still prevent senior citizens and individuals below 15 years of age from going to public places. We suggest na hindi pa rin pinapayagan ang paglabas ng mga vulnerable individuals.”

This was stated by Pangasinan Medical Society President Arlene Pavo during the question hour of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session on December 14 to further convince Pangasinenses to follow the protocols recommended by health experts.

Dr. Pavo also explained that allowing the vulnerable individuals to go outside may result to uncontrolled transmission and aggravate the situation in the province pointing out that discipline is needed to control the spread of the virus.

“Ang pinaka-basic natin ay discipline – using the face mask, using the face shield, at social distancing,” Dr. Pavo said.

Philippine Pediatric Society – Pangasinan Chapter Vice President John Fernandez also advised parents and caregivers to supervise children to ensure that they are complying to minimum health protocols to prevent COVID-19 spread in the province.

“It is strongly recommended by pediatricians for children to remain home to minimize the risk of getting infected and lower the viral transmission,” said Dr. John Fernandez.

Immunocompromised children and family members are also urged to stay at home to lessen the risk of infection.

In response to the availability of vaccine, Provincial Health Officer Anna Maria Teresa de Guzman said that the Department of Health is yet to provide guidelines for the vaccination.

Meanwhile, the financial assistance to all Provincial Government of Pangasinan Barangay Health Workers, Child Development Workers, and Barangay Service Point Officers (BSPOs) was also discussed in relation to the approved Provincial Resolution No. 1773-2020.

The amelioration benefit is an annual recognition to the efforts of the BHWs, Child Development Workers, and BSPOs which started 14 years ago.

“The provincial government has already institutionalized this program and it is a part of the annual budget of Pangasinan,” said Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario.

The manner of the selection is based on the endorsement of barangay and municipal health coordinators. All barangay workers must also undergo training. All submissions are signed by the local chief executives prior to the final listing of the Provincial Health Office.

We fervently hope and pray that this pandemic will end soon. I know, our Pinablin Calasiao and its education system will get back on its feet again”, the good Mayor added.
